Homestay message

Hello,
Rafael and Gretchen extend a warm invitation for you to share our 5 Bdrm., three story, Brownstone Home in Crown Heights, Brooklyn, N.Y. We are located in a charming residential vicinity that is a 15 min train ride across the river to Manhattan. The Subway, Brooklyn Museum, Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, and Prospect Park are walking distance from the house. My Mother of 96 years resides with us.

We desire students and interns, male or female whom are mature, independent, and have a curiosity of learning about other cultures. We normally house more than one students at a time and have three private bedrooms to offer; determined by availability. We like for the students to arrive with specific goals to achieve.

My interest in Global Relations started in elementary school with a book titled" The Family Nobody Wanted" by Helen Doss. This family adopted 12 children from different Races, Colors and Creeds. My passion and interest expanded with my International Relations Studies in college, and my Careers in Int'l Banking, Eastern Airlines, and as an Instructor of Reservations at Pan Am. My husband Rafael fluently speaks English, Spanish, and Portuguese and is an IT Software Engineer. He has traveled extensively with his career.

We have hosted International Interns for four years from Europe, Asia, and South America, and am looking forward to including Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Native U.S. Alaskan.

We enjoy bringing together future Administrator/Leaders in an environment that encourages discussion about differences, but also arrests fears about those same differences. We provide young Globalist with an environment where they have to live together, cooperate and actually develop affectionate inter-dependence. We learn as much from our visitors as they learn from us. It is our hope that these new Leaders will become more accepting of the world's differences with less fear and malice.
