We are a caring American family looking to welcome international students/travelers/interns into our New York home. We truly enjoy sharing American traditions, cuisine and pastimes with visitors. We offer accommodation and help with language classes enrollment in Brooklyn and Staten Island.
We place students in a comfy apartment in a great Brooklyn neighborhood called Bay Ridge. (For placements in our home in Staten Island, please read below). A host/supervisor lives in the apartment full time who makes sure the place is clean and students are taken care of. Guest can choose accommodation in a shared room for $575 per month, negotiable. It takes 20 mins to get to Manhattan from Bay Ridge.
We live in a new and spacious house in Staten Island, which is a NYC borough. The neighborhood is pretty and safe and the public transportation services are excellent. Half of Staten Island works in the City so they have to get there in a timely and reliable manner everyday! There is 55 min commute from our house to Manhattan. It will take you 5 mins to walk to supermarkets, pharmacies, hair&nail salons, coffee shops – whatever you might need. You can even walk to the movie theater, and our students take advantage of that quite often and go see movies together!
We have a little daughter and I'm home with her most of the time. Her name is Sara Jane and she is a sweet&lovely three-year -old. John works a lot and in his time off he loves watching sports and relaxing. I have a good time cooking, spending time with friends and I adore theater and traveling.
We are offering a double room and two single rooms. The double is light and airy, with a big and comfortable bunk bed, sitting area and a flat screen TV. It is air conditioned in the summer and cozy&warm in the winter. The bathroom is solely for the students’ use and you will also have a separate entrance and your own backyard area with a table, chairs, etc.. The accommodation is really nice and private. The price is negotiable based on the dates, length of stay and availability, but we start with $450 per month for the double. Housekeeping, all utilities and wireless internet access are included. You will have fridge&freezer and microwave available right next to your room. We have a kettle, coffee maker, water filter available for you also. (Full kitchen). The housekeeper keeps the rooms&bathroom very clean. We provide bed linens, blankets etc.
When it comes to our students, they are very friendly and respective of others. It's wonderful to see new friendships blossom. Most of the time they hang out together, go out together (so much safer!) or explore Manhattan or even the Staten Island Mall with one another. We (the hosts) are always on top of things but the students are taking good care of one another and are happy to welcome the newest additions. The more the merrier is definitely our motto here. And it's always more fun when the family night comes and more people are joining in to do whatever fun things we've planned. However, for the well-being and comfort of all, four students is our limit.
We will happily pick you up from the airport (Newark&JFK, additional charge applies) and drop you off.
